95/365 - Greece

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Each of the girls in Randi's Girl Scout troop were asked to pick a country to learn about and present to the other girls. Randi choose Greece. She spent hours making sure her flag was just right, and then I helped her research interesting facts about Greece on the computer. Finally, she prepared Pita Pizza's to share after her presentation, since pita bread appears to have originated in Greece (Pita in Greek means flat/round bread).

Randi was excited to learn about Greece and do all her preparations, but when we got in the car to go to the meeting, she started crying and told me she didn't want to talk in front of everyone. She was really, really nervous. I told her I knew how she felt because I used to get scared when I had to talk in front of a class too, so we discussed alternatives that might make her more comfortable. Her scout leaders are awesome and very supportive of all the girls and had no problem with her sitting on the ground next to me while she gave her talk. She was still very shy, and I really had to coax the information out of her, but she stuck with it and got through it, and at the end became the hostess with mostest when it came time to pass out her pizza's....which were a big hit!

Oh well done Randi! Sounds like a great activity and I know how she feels with shyness. But with the love and support you give her she will over come it I am sure!!

What a great project. Poor thing, being so nervous, I totally feel her pain. I was the same way my first time. Great job Randi :)

Good for her! I hate talking in front of people too, so I'm totally with her on that. Glad it went well and love the collage.

Tell Randi that I learned two things here that I did not know about Greece. I did not know the origin of the Yo yo, and I didn't know that children will often live with their parents after marriage. I'm glad she was able to give her report with mom close by. She will gain confidence as she has more opportunities to speak. It's like riding a horse, or riding her bike...it just gets easier when you keep doing it. The last time a comment from you
showed up on my blog was April 1 I'm wondering if there is a problem like you mentioned a few posts back. I miss you.

Great collage! You can let her know I learned something from her poject...I didn't know that's where the yo-yo's came from.

You should definitely try the lash shot. Can't wait to see it :-) I used the 50mm 1.4. It's on my camera 99% of the time. I love it. The only time it's off is for baseball, when I use the 70-200mm 4L. It's pretty sharp for a telephoto but I still prefer primes. I rented a 24-70 2.8L last year and didn't like it but I think I got a bum copy.

Looks like a great time! Not many people like talking in front of a group, so good for her for getting in there and doing it! Her pita pizzas look great!

I love this and your description of her preparation and presentation. She reminds me of myself when I was younger. Actually I didn't get over speaking in public until college where I took a class on public speaking. :)
