163/365 - Love you too!

I got to spend the day with my best friend yesterday. She was in Texas for a dog judging assignment and drove 3 hours to see me. We spent 6 hours together, and then she drove 3 hours back to College Station so she could get some rest before her assignment today. Now that's a good friend! However, I have to say, we weren't always the best of friends. As a matter of fact, there was a time when we really didn't even like each other all that much. That was a while ago, when we were younger and both had strong opinions and differences of opinions. But things changed... and time went by.... and we both softened around the edges and were drawn together by a common thread...a thread that eventually entwined our lives together and made us realize we were more alike and had more in common than we realized. We began to understand each other and were there for each other when things got tough because we each knew just what the other was going through and how it felt and how hard it was to deal with. Through those tough times a friendship and mutual respect blossomed and we're now closer than we've ever been. We started out as "dog" friends, but now we rarely talk about the dogs and instead talk about life and kids and random crazy stuff. I'm so thankful to have her in my life because I know no matter what's going on, I can talk to her and she will listen. She will tell me what I need to hear even if it's not what I want to hear. And if I really needed her, she's the kind of friend that wouldn't ask why and would be on the next plane headed to Texas. When someone knows you- really knows you, all the good and all the bad...and accepts you just the way you are, that's such a rare, amazing thing. Everyone should have a friend like that!

I found this on my refrigerator this morning and it made me smile, and even though I'm mad at myself for not getting a photo of us together yesterday, I'm glad I have this note and photo to remind me how lucky I am to have such a special friend in my life.

Love you too Homie!

Love that you took a photo of her note. I have a friend like that-for 30+ years now-and I don't know what I'd do without her.

Awww! I have a friend of about 16 years that I feel the same about--we've had a few ups and downs in the past but can pick up where we left off now like we didn't live 1400 miles from each other!
