174/365 - Catherine

I really enjoyed spending the last few days with Catherine. I find it so refreshing that two people from different parts of the world, with different backgrounds and different lives can come together and be joined together so seamlessly by a mutual love of photography. It was a pleasure getting to know her and her beautiful family, and it was fun to talk shop, trade lenses, share knowledge and be able to hand my camera over to someone else without having to check and change a bunch of settings before doing so (we both shoot with Canon 7d's). Catherine was so generous with her time and talent, and I'm looking forward to putting some of her suggestions into practice.

Here are some of the things I learned from Catherine:
- not to fear RAW (I'd never shot in RAW ever until the first day Catherine was here and she challenged me to turn my settings to RAW... and I haven't turned it back to JPG since.)
- how to use my speed light (metering and bouncing light)
- some fun tips on processing in LR (I'd never used curves or tone adjustments, so that was fun...and oh the endless possibilities there are now with using RAW files)
- I need to break out my 70-200mm and use it rather than letting it just sit in my camera bag
- And I need to take some photos and post about my "Wild" neighbors (and believe me when I say they're wild!)

I'm cheating a little today and using a picture that Catherine's husband took of us with her camera that I downloaded to my computer, but it's the only time we thought to take a picture together, so I figured it's OK because I was telling him what to do, and so was Catherine, so poor John was doomed from the start but never let it rattle him. Plus, if Catherine uses the same or similar photo, it'll be fun to see how she processes it.

I hope you enjoyed your trip to Texas my friend, and until we meet again, may the light be with you.

I love this! No pressure for Catherine's husband getting advice from the pros. ;)
