I got a little sad when I saw today's prompt and my heart hurt when I started thinking again about the loved ones I've recently lost. One thing I really regret is not having a picture of my Mom and the kids and I together. If only I'd taken the time and effort to make it happen; I guess I always thought there'd be time enough to do it... Thankfully, I do have a great one of my Dad with the kids and I that was taken a year ago that I'll treasure forever.

After a good cry, I looked around to see what else I could do with a generations theme...and the "girls" came to mind. Michael and I have been breeding dogs for over 20 years, and I'm a licensed Senior Breeder Judge for the Australian Shepherd Club of America. We've bred and trained numerous conformation, obedience, working and agility champions, and our kennel is one of only 23 kennels in the world that have obtained Hall of Fame Excellent status. Ever since we had kids, the dogs have taken a back seat to them, but they're still an important part of our lives, so I thought it would be fitting to take a picture of them.

This picture represents 4 generations of Shadowrun Australian Shepherds. The two blue merle girls lying down are Teva & Piper, litter sisters out of an amazing little dog we bred named Pebbles, who was out of one of our very first dogs named Blueberry. The two dogs sitting between them are their daughters, Kai (black tri) and Cha Cha (red tri). If you look closely at their faces, you can tell which daughter belongs to which mom because they are really cookie cutters of their mothers, just a different color. I used to take pictures of the dogs like I take pictures of the kids, but I haven't taken any of them in quite a long time, and I've never taken one of the four of them together, so now I'm thankful for today's theme because it motivated me to take this picture. Teva and Piper are 12 and starting to show their age, so who knows how long they'll be with us, so I'm very, very glad to have this picture of my "little people with fur".

I went back in time for my generations photo too. So sorry for your recent losses.
Love the picture of the girls. Those dogs are gorgeous!
I don't have very many photos of my parents and/or my grandparents and my kids and I. I need to fix that when I can.
Beautiful dogs!
I know how you feel not having loved ones around. Sorry it was a rough day but I loved seeing the pictues of the dogs. They are so beautiful & you captured them in a great light. Plus, they are all looking at the camera! Well done!
Both photos are beautiful, but I especially love the one of the dogs. We used to have a gorgeous female Shetland Sheepdog. Herding dogs are the SMARTEST! Your Australian Sheperds are gorgeous. I always say I was raised in a kennel, because my parents raised American Cocker Spaniels for show. I was always surrounded by puppies, and my chores growing up, were all kennel oriented. I spent a lot of time at dog shows and even showed my own dog.
What a sweet picture of you guys with your dad. He was a handsome man! *hugs* Beautiful dogs too!
What a beautiful family shot with your dad. I am sorry you haven't one with your mum - funny how some things escape us and we just don't get it done. You have reminded me and I will have to make a point of getting some with my Grandma. I love your dogs too such a rustic feel to the shot. They are beaut! xx Thanks for your encouragement again it means so much!!
So great you have that photo with your Dad, it's just such a sweet shot! I also love the picture of your girls! They are absolutely beautiful...we have a Shepherd mix and she's such a fabulous part of our lives!!
I love the photo of your dad with you guys! Then, the dogs... ooohh so sweet!!
Ohh! Such wonderful photos! I agree with the need to take photos with our parents. I need to get more of me with them! I seem to snap when they are playing with the children, but not enough of the grown ups. I LOVE your beautiful dogs! The picture has lots of fun texture!!
I am so impressed you were able to get all of them looking at the same time. Having 3 dogs on my mom's christmas card makes it impossible for a good picture...
Hugs! If you notice, I skipped that day's assignment. It was too raw for me.
Your dogs are gorgeous! I am amazed at how beautifully they are sitting for their portrait. They are like models!
Ok..another connection. Growing up my parents bred and showed dogs. We bred Sealyham Terriers. Many of my childhood memories are of going to dog shows. We didn't do agility or obedience with them, but I did do that with my own dog when I was first out on my own.
i was showing david a pic of your awesome snow angel, randi, when he told me to stop...of course bc he saw a pic of dogs & he ALWAYS wants a dog. then he asks me if you have any to sell...and i remind him that we're about to have baby #4, and we made a deal that no new dogs until this baby is at least 2 years old!!! if he secretly calls you or corners you about these dogs, the answer is NO WAY!!! NOT YET!!! ;)
Your dogs are beautiful Kristin! It was a close race between a Jack Russell and an Australian Shepherd when we were deciding on a dog... the littler dog with a little less hair won out :)
btw, I love your header picture! What an awesome family photo!
